Enjoy this Rice Dumpling with the Onion chutney for which you can find a detailed recipe in our previous video!! Today we are making rice dumplings. This can be had with onion chutney. Method: For the onion chutney, we need to grind shallots, red chilly powder and salt and finally, add a spoon of coconut oil. Let's look at the ingredients need for making the rice dumplings. We need 2 cups of rice. Soak this rice in water for 1 hour. After 1 hour, drain the water and keep the rice aside. We also need mustard, chana dal , red chilly, curry leaves and salt. Keep the pan on the lighted stove. To this, add 4 tsp of oil. Add 1 tsp of mustard. When the mustard starts to crackle, add 1 tsp of chana dal, 3-4 red chillies and 2 sprigs of curry leaves and stir. Now, add 5 cups of water (about 2 1/2 cups of water is needed for 1 cup of rice). Add required salt and wait for it to boil. In the meantime, let's grind the rice. When grinding, add water such that the water level is just above the rice. The rice should be ground to a coarse mix as shown. Transfer the ground mix from the mixer to a bowl. Add the mix from the bowl to the boiling water. Stir well. We should wait till the water reduces. By this time, the rice will also get cooked. We also need to add 1 bowl of grated coconut. Cover and cook for sometime. Open the lid in between and stir well. Add 1 tsp of coconut oil/cooking oil and mix well. Cover and cook for some more time. Switch off the stove. When the mix has cooled a little, start making balls with your hands. Roll the balls gently. Do not apply pressure while making the balls. Keep the rolled balls on a plate. Now, we need to steam cook the rolled balls. Place the rolled balls in a steamer or an idli pot. Cover the steamer and cook for about 5 mins in medium flame. The rice dumplings are now ready.
